Anna excels in the field of macro photography in which she explores our capacity to re-imagine everyday things in a new and deeply expressive light. She is also creating an ongoing body of work centred around the Shoreditch area of London, producing photographs which are fascinating and vital.

Claudia's photographs are evidence of a questioning soul, of a keen intelligence that is always searching beneath the surface of things for an underlying truth. Her visual art is but one part of a wider artistic expression... her book of prose, poetry and photographs, 'Metroprosi', is available exclusively from www.edizionifioridicampo.it.

Paddy Summerfield is a wonderful photographer. For the past 40 years he has produced black and white images that are up there with the greats. His deeply personal photographs are profound, witty, symbolic, honest and vital. The vagaries of the art world are an anathema to him, which perhaps explains why he isn't better known. But thankfully he has a website that showcases his beautiful work.

I came across Maria's photographs on a site called Usefilm a few months back... I was so touched, moved and impressed by her work. This shouldn't be an issue, but Maria is 17 years old. For her to produce work of such profundity, maturity and eloquence at such a young age is really extraordinary. I am convinced that she will be a recognised photographer within the art community in years to come... she is a special talent and I am one of her biggest fans. Do yourself a favour and look at her work, it will improve your life if you do! Simply follow the link to the Flickr website and then paste in /photos/21151157@N00/sets/ after flickr.com.

Olivia Parker constructs intricate photographic collages that are cloaked in a complex, personal symbolism. Her images are hard to 'explain' - perhaps only she could do that - nevertheless they affect me in a similar way to poetry that one understands on an emotional rather than literal level.

Peter Ruting's still lifes are masterpieces of the genre. His awareness of the subtleties of composition, colour, tone and contrast is truly extraordinary. I came across his book 'The Images Of Thought' quite by chance a few months back in a secondhand bookshop and was so impressed by it I bought it on the spot. Look at his work and you'll understand why...

Paul Caponigro is a visionary artist whose photography expands our awareness of this beautiful world of ours. His photograph 'West Hartford, Connecticut' (1959) made me understand the potential for photography to reveal as well as record. It is my favourite photograph for that reason.

Where do I start when trying to describe the photography of Carl Chiarenza? His work is utterly unique... just incredible. His highly abstract monochrome images are voyages into the furthest reaches of the imagination, each one so thought-provoking and multi-layered that I could look at them for the rest of my life and still find new resonances and meanings in them.

Wynn Bullock's photographs affected me so deeply when I first came across them a few years ago. His acuity of perception and sensitivity to the natural world enabled him to create images that symbolise universal forces at work.

One of the most gifted and intelligent photographers of the last century, Minor White's images changed my perception of photography when I discovered them for the first time. He had the most extraordinary capacity to look under the surface of things and reveal new layers of meaning. His writings on photography are also indispensible as he was an artist who was as capable with words as he was with a camera.
